Ulsys have a team of professionals experienced in developing and bringing new ideas and products to market, have worked together before and have specific expertise in the medical device field.


Chairman

David Farrar (Non-Exec Chairman) leads Ulsys and has worked with the team on another successful Blueprint spin-out, Younger Skin Ltd, which has raised £330k seed funding and will have OTC product on the market with a major High Street retailer in early 2006. David has an exceptional record of success in the strategic development of international business and new markets, complemented by outstanding customer relationship and team management skills. His track record of growing sales and launching products is exemplified by the successful launch and growth of sales of SlimFast in the UK for Sun Nutritional UK Inc., David is also CEO of Nutren Technology, a NorthWest based start-up company developing the world’s first hand-held breath activated device for the measurement of calorie intake and expenditure.


Inventor

Mick Karol, is a product designer and drives the design and technical developments and QC/regulatory issues. A serial entrepreneur, with a talent for spotting solutions to real issues, Mick has been responsible for the design, manufacture and commercialisation of a range of products in the healthcare sector including pelvic floor toners (licensed to CST), anti-wrinkle skin patches (exploited through spin-out Younger Skin Ltd), beBeautiful non-surgical face-lift machines, and a novel wound healing product sold to major industrial partner.


Financial Director

Malcolm Barraclough is a management accountant. He gained valuable experience in small scale venture capital as an investment executive with Yorkshire Enterprises before establishing his own chartered accountancy practice in 1998, which currently consists of two partners and employs six staff. Malcolm has worked with Mick on various projects over the last 8 years.


Business Development

Dr Joanne Phoenix has extensive experience in project managing new start businesses and commercialisation of intellectual property in the life science sector and will provide project management and additional business development capability. Joanne specialises in helping shape fundable business opportunities and has been instrumental in the development and creation of 6 University of Liverpool spin-outs and has raised in excess of £1.3m in early seed funding for North West UK-based technology companies and projects. Joanne works with Mick, David and Malcolm on Blueprint Product Development Ltd and Younger Skin Ltd.
